How long did your doctor tell you to wait before you had sex after giving birth?

My BFF just had a baby and she is ready to get back to her sex life, but the doctor told her to wait six weeks. That is what the doctor told me to, but my husband and I had sex after five. She just had the baby three weeks ago. Me, personally, I could not take being penetrated (even though I wanted to be badly) until five weeks. I was still soar and bleeding a little bit at three. How long did you wait? Do you think its safe to after three weeks?

The doctor tells you to wait six weeks because that is how long it takes for your cervix to fully close usually. And he will want to check to make sure that its fully closed at six weeks before giving the go a head with sex, because of the chance of infection. So, it is best that your friend waits until six weeks because there is still a chance that her cervix is still open and she will only cause herself problems.
